Zoe Perry’s new role hits close to home. Recently, the Young Sheldon star spoke with Entertainment Weekly about playing her mother in the upcoming CBS TV series.
A spin-off of The Big Bang Theory, the comedy follows “Sheldon Cooper at the age of 9, living with his family in East Texas and going to high school.” The cast includes Iain Armitage as Sheldon, Zoe Perry as Sheldon’s mother, Lance Barber, Raegan Revord, and Montana Jordan. Jim Parsons, who plays adult Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory, will narrate the sitcom.
Perry’s mother, Laurie Metcalf, plays Sheldon’s mother on The Big Bang Theory. In the interview, Perry told EW that she went over Young Sheldon with her mom:
I did run one of the scenes with her because I was curious to hear her accent doing it. Although I actually didn’t have her read the lines because then that would’ve just stuck in my head. But I made her talk a little bit and I rewatched some of her stuff.”
Later, Perry mentioned the two shows will be different:
It’s interesting because there is a tonal difference between Big Bang and Young Sheldon. Big Bang is a multi, and now this one is a single camera. It’ll be really interesting for audiences to see where they’re similar and how they diverge. I think audiences are going to be really, really surprised and excited about it.”
Young Sheldon is slated to debut on CBS sometime during the 2017-2018 season.
