30 Rock: Renewed for Seventh, Final Season

season 7 for 30 RockAs suspected, NBC has renewed 30 Rock for a seventh and final season. The sitcom will have 13 installments to say goodbye.

Once one of the peacock network’s most prized shows, 30 Rock’s ratings have have come down quite a bit. The series debuted in 2006 to a 2.9 rating and 8.1 million viewers but didn’t hit its peak until season three and the 2008-09 season. That season kicked off with a whopping 4.1 demo rating and 8.66 million.

This season’s been a different story entirely. The premiere of season six was held off until mid-season, at least in part to accommodate Tina Fey’s pregnancy. It drew a 1.8 demo rating and 4.47 million viewers. Over the course of the season, the numbers have dropped considerably — hitting a 1.2 rating with fewer than three million viewers.

30 Rock is currently averaging a 1.5 in the demo with 3.55 million. On our NBC Ratings Report Card, it has a “B-” and is ranked #10 out of 20 scripted shows this season.

In addition to the ailing ratings the 30 Rock contracts for both Fey and Baldwin are due to expire after season seven and Baldwin has frequently hinted that he was ready to move on.

NBC presents their 2012-13 schedule on Monday so we’ll know by then if 30 Rock will return in the fall or mid-season.

What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that 30 Rock is ending? Do you think that the show should have run this long?
