30 Rock: To Be Renewed for Seventh & Final Season [report]

season 7 renewal for 30 rockIt looks like the gang from 30 Rock will be back for a seventh and final season. According to Deadline, a deal is close to being finalized to renew the NBC sitcom but it looks likely that it will only be for 13 installments. In that past, a renewal was looked at as a no-brainer but times have changed.

Though it’s still one of NBC’s most high profile sitcoms, the ratings for 30 Rock are way down this year. Last season, 30 Rock was averaging a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million total viewers. It was the second-highest rated scripted series on the peacock network.

This season, 30 Rock’s averaging a 1.54 in the demo with 3.55 million. That’s a year-to-year decline of 33% in the all-important demographic and 28% in total viewership. It’s currently the 10th-highest scripted show on NBC.

On our NBC Ratings Report Card, 30 Rock has a “B-” grade — placing it firmly on the bubble.

If 30 Rock is indeed renewed for a final season of 13 episodes, that will bring the show’s total to 138 episodes.

The sixth season finale of 30 Rock airs on May 17th. NBC will announces their 2012-13 schedule (plus cancellations and renewals) next Monday morning. Stay tuned!

What do you think? Do you think 30 Rock should return or is it time to cancel the ailing sitcom? Has it gone on too long already?
