60 Minutes: 50th Anniversary Season Renewal from CBS

60 Minutes TV show on CBS: season 50The clock will keep on ticking on Sunday nights. CBS has renewed their groundbreaking newsmagazine, 60 Minutes for the 2017-18 broadcast season. This will be the program’s 50th season.

One of the most successful shows in television history, 60 Minutes continues to offer investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news. Correspondents include Steve Kroft, Scott Pelley, Bill Whitaker, Norah O’Donnell, Armen Keteyian, Jeffrey Fager, Lesley Stahl, Anderson Cooper, Lara Logan, Charlie Rose, Sharyn Alfonsi, and Bill Owens.

The current season is averaging a 1.76 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 12.13 million viewers. Compared to the 2015-16 season, that’s up by about 7% in both categories.

At this point however, the ratings for 60 Minutes don’t seem to have much of an impact on the show’s future. It’s hard to imagine that CBS will be ending this venerable program as long as they want to air a newsmagazine.

It’s expected that CBS will celebrate the program’s golden anniversary at some point during the 2017-18 season.

What do you think? Do you like the 60 Minutes TV show? Are you glad that it’s been renewed for a 50th season?
