Only recently was it announced that NBC would be reviving Steven Spielberg’s ’80s series, Amazing Stories. In an interview with Crave, Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller revealed Spielberg himself asked Fuller to help reboot the show.
Created in 1985, Amazing Stories modeled itself on previous genre anthology series like The Twilight Zone.
The series ended in 1987 after two seasons that featured episodes written by Spielberg and directed by the likes of Clint Eastwood and Martin Scorsese. It was nominated for a total of 12 Emmys, winning five over the course of 45 episodes.
In his interview, Fuller said Spielberg called him in for a meeting, saying he was a fan of Hannibal and wanted Fuller to produce the new Amazing Stories.
He responded, “I will do whatever you want me to do, Mr. Spielberg.”
Fuller also reports that while they are early in the series’ development, Spielberg is very much involved.
Currently, Fuller is also working on the TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel American Gods, which will air on Starz sometime in 2017.

Oh I think it’s totally refreshing to tell stories in this way. It’s exciting that they can be high concept and that essentially, the requirements are that they have to be horror, science fiction or fantasy. Those are the requirements of the story.”
