Simon Cowell has already said he won’t be joining ABC’s upcoming American Idol reboot, but what about in the future? Cowell recently spoke to Deadline about the possibility of ever appearing on the TV series again.
Cowell was one of the singing competition show’s original judges, alongside Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. He left the FOX series after season nine in 2010 to work on the American version of The X Factor.
Speaking to Deadline, Cowell said he doubts he’ll ever be involved with American Idol again:
I don’t really have any involvement in that show, other than my time spent on it, which is a good memory. I doubt very much I would ever be involved in that show again. The thing about that show was, sometimes you just create magic without realizing you’re creating it, whether it was the producers, the judges, the host — everything just worked. And one by one everybody left and you could feel it coming. It was like because there is not much of a format with Idol. … For me, Idol is a memory, a great memory at the beginning.”
As of now, Katy Perry is the only confirmed judge set for ABC‘s American Idol reboot. A premiere date has not yet been set, but the show is expected to return in early 2018.
What do you think? Are you a fan of American Idol? Would you like to see Simon return for the ABC revival?
