Last year, only three contestants on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior TV show were able to complete Stage 2. All three of them — Joe Moravsky, Sean Bryan and Najee Richardson — failed to make it past Stage 3. Can American Ninja Warrior make it past the Nielsen ratings this summer? Hosted by Matt Iseman, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, and Kristine Leahy, American Ninja Warrior is based on the Japanese series, Sasuke. The NBC TV show follows competitors in series of obstacle courses in both city qualifying and city finals rounds. Contestants who complete the finals course in their area move on to the national finals round. In season 10, the show will visit Dallas, Miami, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Minneapolis before heading to Las Vegas to take on the four-stage course that’s been modeled after the famed Mt. Midoriyama course in Japan. At stake is a grand prize of $1,000,000.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
