Animals: HBO Adult Animated Series Debuts February 5th; Watch Trailers

Animals TV show on HBO: season one

HBO confirms its adult animated comedy TV series, Animals, will premiere its ten-episode season one, Friday, February 5, 2016, at 11:30pm ET/PT. Back in May, HBO gave the show a two season commitment, in a deal widely reported to have come out of the Sundance Film Festival. Taking a leaf — or at least half of one — from Aesop’s Fable, The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse, Animals tells the story of critters living in (and off of) the Big Apple.

Created by Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano, Animals is produced by Duplass Brothers Television. Animals Executive Producers Mark and Jay Duplass are producing-writing-acting triple-threats, who have both appeared on The Mindy Project, which was cancelled by FOX after three seasons, and then renewed by Hulu for season four.

Via press release, HBO says:

ANIMALS focuses on the downtrodden creatures native to Earth’s least-habitable environment: New York City. Whether it’s lovelorn rats, gender-questioning pigeons or aging bedbugs in the midst of a midlife crisis, the awkward small talk, moral ambiguity and existential woes of non-human urbanites prove startlingly similar to our own.
