What’s This TV Show About?
An HBO adult, animated comedy from EPs Mark Duplass and Jay Duplass, the Animals voice cast stars Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano. Lauren Lapkus, Katie Aselton, Claudia O’Doherty, Jay Duplass, Mindy Sterline, Kurt Vile, and Jon Lovitz recur. The Animals TV show features the down and out critters that live in — and off of — the Big Apple. From rats planning on what street scraps to bring to a party, to a pigeon who thinks a stray golf ball is its egg, to more rats bragging about their sex lives, animals aren’t so different from humans. Squabbling about politics, heckling passers-by, or feasting upon a spilled and forgotten Slurpees, these animals are just trying to get by.
Season Two Ratings
The second season of Animals averaged a 0.08 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 240,000 viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 3% in the demo and down by 8% in viewership. Learn how Animals stacks up against the other HBO scripted TV shows.

Telly’s Take
As expected, season two premiered with weak numbers but the show’s numbers have always been terrible. Will the Animals TV show be cancelled or renewed for season three? For now, here’s my wild guess: I’ll be having these little fellas for supper sooner, rather than later. In its first season on HBO, the ratings were terrible, but the premium cable channel ordered two seasons up front. While pay cable stations don’t have to worry about ratings per se, they still want to retain and attract subscribers. Don’t be surprised if the second season of Animals is its final installment.
