Archer: Season Eight Plans Teased by EPs

Archer season six and season seven

The season seven finale of Archer just aired last night, and executive producers Matt Thompson and Casey Willis recently spoke with Zap2It about the future of the FX series.

The animated comedy follows Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin), a former spy who now works as a private investigator. Aisha Tyler, Jessica Walter, Chris Parnell, Judy Greer, and Amber Nash also provide voices.

In the interview, Thompson said they do have a plan for season eight but are still waiting for FX to renew the show:

We have a plan in place, it’s just FX has not announced if we’re renewed or not. Talks are on-going. One way or the other I know we’ll know by the time we get to Comic-Con by the end of July … that Comic-Con might be pretty interesting.”

He added that the spin-off mentioned at the end of season seven might actually happen:

I love Archer and Archer-bot hanging out together. Those two guys together are just great, and I think what [creator Adam Reed] realized as he was writing them is what perfect buddy is there for Archer but himself? We do have a couple different ideas that we’re avidly talking to FX about and that’s actually in the mix. Think “Simon & Simon,” but not.”

Regarding season eight, Thompson says the show can go anywhere:

Everything’s on the table. There’s even a world where we go back to being spies. The discussions are all on-going right now. And there’s “Simon & Simon.”

What do you think? Do you watch Archer? What do you hope happens in the next season?
