Arrested Development creator Mitchell Hurwitz originally said that each of the 10 episodes would revolve around catching up with individual characters and build towards the planned feature film.
Now, he says that episodes will feel a lot more like the original show because he wants to take advantage of all of the new installments being released at once. Hurwitz said, “There’s going to be some mystery sprinkled throughout this (but) instead of watching one a week and try to get ahead of it, the hope is (fans) will watch them all together and then go back and look for clues and connections… We’d also like to use the technology to provide additional material, where you might be able to access another part of the story.”
He also said that, if season four proves successful enough, he and his team would like to produce seasons five and six of Arrested Development for Netflix. Hurwitz was joined at the event by TV series castmembers Will Arnett, David Cross, Jessica Walters, Jeffrey Tambor, and Alia Shawkat.
Releasing all of an original show’s episodes at the same time isn’t new for Netflix. Lilyhammer, the company’s first original series, debuted on February 6th with all eight episodes of its first season. Starring Steven Van Zandt as an American mobster in Norway, Netflix has already ordered a second season.
Two more Netflix original series, House of Cards and Hemlock Grove, are also in the works.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to season four? How many seasons should they reasonably make?
