Ballers will follow the lives of a group of former and current football players and comes from Stephen Levinson (Entourage), who wrote the script and will executive produce along with Mark Wahlberg, Johnson, Hiram Garcia, Evan Reilly and Peter Berg (who will direct the pilot).
Others in the cast include Omar Benson Miller, John David Washington, Rob Corddry, Troy Garity, Donovan Carter, Jazmyn Simon, Taylor Cole and LeToya Luckett.
The pickup of Ballers follows HBO’s decision to greenlight The Brink, a comedy which will star Tim Robbins and Jack Black.
