Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome Not Moving Forward as TV Series

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome TV seriesAfter Caprica was cancelled, Syfy gave the go-ahead for a different Battlestar Galactica prequel, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. The idea was for it to revolve around the early years of William Adama (Luke Pasqualino) and the first Cylon war. The pilot was deliver last November and fans at WonderCon were treated to an impressive trailer last weekend. The footage made its way to YouTube and quickly reignited fan interest, garnering 100,000 views in less than a day.

Unfortunately, the Blood & Chrome trailer was actually an unofficial demo reel that didn’t have any of the proper clearances. It wasn’t officially supposed to be shown to the public and has been pulled down from YouTube.

As recently as January, Syfy President of Original Content Mark Stern said that his team was trying to work out the economics of the Battlestar Galactica prequel.

Now, Stern notes that, even though the 90-minute TV movie will air at some point in the future, the cable channel won’t be producing a Blood & Chrome television series. He says that they aren’t dropping the project however.

In a statement, Stern said, “Though the vision for Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome has evolved over the course of the past year, our enthusiasm for this ambitious project has not waned. We are actively pursuing it as was originally intended: a groundbreaking digital series that will launch to audiences beyond the scope of a television screen.”

What do you think? Would you like to see the 90-minute movie? Do you think it could work as a web series?
