Best Friends Forever: New NBC Sitcom, Cancel or Keep It?

Best Friends Forever to be canceled? This week, NBC unveiled Best Friends Forever as they said goodbye to Bent. While Bent is almost guaranteed to be cancelled and not to return for a second season, is there any better news for Best Friends Forever?

In the sitcom, Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham play best friends who live on the opposite ends of the country. Jessica receives divorce papers from her husband and Lennon convinces her to return to the Brooklyn apartment they once shared. Before long, they’ve fallen into their old rituals but this doesn’t leave much room for Lennon’s live-in boyfriend, Joe (Luka Jones). Others in the series include Stephen Schneider and Daija Owens.

Best Friends Forever debuted on Wednesday night to a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.94 million total viewers. The sitcom had a lead-in from returning Betty White’s: Off Their Rockers and lost 33% of that show’s demo lead-in.

Do you think Best Friends Forever should be cancelled?

It was in a distant third place in the timeslot, tied with a rerun of ABC’s Suburgatory. Had the alphabet network’s sitcom been an original episode, Forever would have surely done even worse.

Are You There, Chelsea?, which previously held the timeslot, debuted to a 2.3 demo rating and 6.18 million. Over the course of the season, that show’s numbers fell to a 1.2 demo rating. Forever is starting out with that low number and will surely fall lower in subsequent weeks.

Unless the ratings miraculously improve, it looks like Forever is already doomed to be cancelled. NBC has five more episodes and, based on the early numbers, they’re no doubt happy that they don’t have any more than that.

But, what do you think? Did you like Best Friends Forever? Should it be cancelled or renewed for season two?
