Best Friends Forever: NBC Sitcom Canned; No Season Two

no season two on NBC for Best Friends ForeverTo no surprise, NBC has cancelled, Best Friends Forever, their low-rated sitcom that debuted last month. Following a pair of best gal pals who are reunited after a divorce, Best Friends Forever stars Lennon Parham, Jessica St. Clair, Stephen Schneider, Luka Jones, and Daija Owens.

The sitcom debuted in early April to poor ratings; registering a disappointing 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.94 million total viewers. The second episode fell a 25% lower and week three dropped another 11%. The fourth installment held steady but a 0.8 rating with 2.7 million viewers was still a terrible performance.

The peacock network pulled Best Friends Forever after that and replaced it with additional episodes of Betty White’ Off Their Rockers. The senior citizen hidden-camera show immediately did better in the timeslot — improving on the demo by 75%.

NBC later announced that they’d be airing the remaining two episodes of Best Friends Forever on Friday, June 1st.

While NBC didn’t officially cancel the sitcom at that time, it was obvious that the show wouldn’t be back for a second season. And now, they’ve made it official. Co-creator Parham confirmed the news on Twitter and noted that fans are working to try to save the series. St. Clair, the other co-creator, joked, “we’re gonna save bff if I have to shoot season 2 in the back of that marshalls bus!”

What do you think? Did you enjoy this sitcom? Do you think it could have been a success if circumstances were different?
