Variety reports that NBC has cancelled the Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris. The live variety hour, hosted by Harris, also featured Nathaniel Motulsky and Nicole Scherzinger.
The eight-episode first season included celebrity appearances, comedy skits, stunts, games, giveaways, and hidden camera pranks. Best Time Ever… was inspired by the UK series Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, from ITV.
According to Variety, “[NBC] and Harris are committed to working together on new projects through NBC’s deal with Harris’ Prediction Productions.”

“We are extremely proud of the work Neil and the producers did on ‘Best Time Ever,’ ” Paul Telegdy, NBC’s president of late-night and alternative programming, told Variety. “People rewarded us for taking the risk of trying something different. It was an incredibly complicated and sophisticated form of television to put on a live show on a weekly basis. We’re proud of Neil for giving it his all and we have steely resolve to work together on something new.”
For its first season, Best Time Ever… averaged a 1.49 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic, with an average audience of 5.184 million viewers. The Variety exclusive notes, “The live format made it an expensive undertaking for the network and an exhausting regimen for Harris.”
