What’s next for Better Call Saul? Recently, co-creator Peter Gould spoke with EW about season five of the AMC TV show.
A spin-off of Breaking Bad, the drama stars Bob Odenkirk as Jimmy McGill, a down-on-his-luck lawyer trying to negotiate the ethical dilemmas of the legal world, emerge from his older brother’s shadow, and make a name for himself. The cast also includes Jonathan Banks, Michael McKean, Patrick Fabian, Rhea Seehorn, Michael Mando, and Giancarlo Esposito.
In the interview, Gould revealed season five of Better Call Saul will explore the transition from Jimmy into Saul Goodman:
It seems like Jimmy’s first move is to try to leverage all the contacts he has in the world of selling drop phones. But don’t forget, he also knows the vet [Caldera, played by Joe DeRosa], and the vet is sort of Craig’s List for the underworld in Albuquerque. So he can get quite far. The question is: how does he establish a reputation as not just a criminal lawyer but a criminal lawyer? And what does that mean to him at this point? Because situations may require him to do things and turn a blind eye to things that Jimmy McGill would not be able to stomach.”
And how will Jimmy’s story end? Gould says:
My dream would be that this is somewhere in the same universe of satisfaction as Breaking Bad was. I was so proud to be part of the way we ended Breaking Bad, and that was actually one of the fears of doing this show — that we would tarnish that. Having said that, I think we are closer to the end than to the beginning.”
According to HNEntertainment, season five of the AMC series will begin shooting in April 2019.
