Better Call Saul: Season Four; Co-Creator Talks AMC Series Renewal Chances

Better Call Saul TV show on AMC: canceled or season 4? (canceled or renewed?)

(Robert Trachtenberg / AMC / Sony Pictures Television)

Better Call Saul is nearing the end of its third season, but what about a fourth? Recently, co-creator Peter Gould spoke with Uproxx about the future of the AMC TV series.

A spin-off of Breaking Bad, the comedy-drama follows Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk), a down-on-his-luck lawyer trying to negotiate the ethical dilemmas of the legal world, emerge from his older brother’s shadow, and make a name for himself. The cast also includes Jonathan Banks, Michael McKean, Patrick Fabian, Rhea Seehorn, Michael Mando, and Giancarlo Esposito.

In the interview, Gould told Uproxx’s Alan Sepinwall that there is an end in mind for Better Call Saul:

I will say I think this show has a definitely limit to it. It’s a story with a beginning and a middle and a definite end. I have to say, I would rather have it end too soon than go on too long. It’s the old showbiz adage: “Leave them wanting more.” I would rather have people wish there had been more seasons than them going, “Oh, is that still on?””

Will there be a fourth season, though? AMC has yet to renew the show, but Gould is optimistic there will be another season:

They should always be worried in television… AMC and Sony have been very good to us. I believe they will continue to be, but it’s show business. There’s nothing that’s certain. You asked me how many seasons we have left; hopefully, it’s a creative decision to end the show, and not an economic one. So I don’t want to take anything for granted. I just feel lucky that we’ve done three seasons. I sure hope we get to do more.”

However, if Better Call Saul does finish with season three, Gould says the ending will be “very provocative.”

What do you think? Are you a fan of Better Call Saul? How many more seasons do you want?
