The Big Bang Theory: CBS Hopes for More Than 12 Seasons

The Big Bang Theory: canceled or renewed?

(CBS)

If its up to CBS CEO Les Moonves, you won’t have to worry about The Big Bang Theory TV show being cancelled for a long time, and not just because CBS already renewed the sitcom for its 11th and 12th seasons, back in March. During the Tiffany Network’s Upfront breakfast, Moonves said he hopes it runs beyond that, and wishes the network had held onto Ray Romano’s Everybody Loves Raymond, for a bit longer, too.

The Big Bang Theory follows two book smart, socially inept Caltech physicists, Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), as well as their friends. The CBS cast also includes Kaley Cuoco, Mayim Bialik, Simon Helberg, Melissa Rauch, and Kunal Nayyar.

Deadline reports:

“I hope it goes beyond that,” [Moonves] said during CBS’ traditional upfront breakfast on Wednesday morning. “In my book, Everybody Loves Raymond left three years too early. “You want to leave on top, but you also don’t want to leave money on the table.

Raymond, then-CBS’ biggest comedy series, ended its run in 2005 after nine seasons.

Moonves also slightly lifted the curtain on the network’s negotiations with Warner Bros. TV and the Big Bang cast. (at this point in a show’s run, the network covers actors’ salaries, or at least the bulk of it.)

“I don’t think it was terribly trying,” he said. Underscoring the importance of the show to both CBS and the studio, the matter was handled at the highest level.

“(Warner Bros. Entertainment CEO) Kevin (Tsujihara) and I met with the cast. We presented them with where the show was. We wanted to make this a happy experience.”

What do you think? Are you still watching The Big Bang Theory? How long do you think this CBS TV series should run?
