Big Brother: Season 20 Ratings

Big Brother TV show on CBS: season 20 ratings (canceled or renewed season 21?)

Last summer, fans didn’t have to worry whether CBS might cancel or renew its Big Brother TV show, because it was already renewed before the premiere. This time around, there are no such reassurances. Still, since the reality TV series has long been a Nielsen ratings winner, cancellation isn’t a big concern. We’re keeping an eye on the ratings though, because it helps us measure the success of other Tiffany Network shows, and one day, Big Brother will fail to captivate viewers, so stay tuned.     *Status update below.

A competitive reality TV series, hosted by Julie Chen, Big Brother typically airs on CBS three nights a week — Wednesdays (veto), Thursdays (eviction), and Sundays. In the 20th season, the new contestants are: Steve Arienta, Sam Bledsoe, Haleigh Broucher, Kaycee Clark, Tyler Crispen, Bayleigh Dayton, Kaitlyn Herman, Winston Hines, Angel “Rockstar” Lantry, JC Monduix, Brett Robinson, Angela Rummans, Scottie Salton, Faysal Shafaat, Rachel Swindler, and Chris “Swaggy C” Williams.

Big Brother follows a group of people living together in a house outfitted with 94 HD cameras and 113 microphones, recording their every move 24 hours a day. Each week someone is voted out of the house. The last remaining Houseguest wins the grand prize of $500,000.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

9/21 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

For comparisons: The 19th season of Big Brother averaged a 1.69 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.088 million viewers on Sundays, a 1.82 in the demo and 5.999 million viewers during eviction episodes (Thursdays), and a 1.89 and 6.333 million, respectively, during veto episodes (Wednesdays).

Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
