What’s This TV Show About?
A family comedy series airing on the ABC television network, Black-ish follows Andre “Dre” Johnson (Anthony Anderson). He has a great job, and is married to anesthesiologist Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross). Together, they are raising four kids (Yara Shahidi, Marcus Scribner, Miles Brown, and Marsai Martin), in a suburban colonial home. They’re a happy family, but Dre worries they have lost touch with their roots. With help from his parents (Laurence Fishburne and Jennifer Lewis), he sets out to establish a sense of cultural identity for his family — one which honors their past, yet embraces the future.
Season Three Ratings
The third season of Black-ish averaged a 1.52 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.17 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down by 15% in the demo and down by 12% in viewership. Find out how Black-ish stacks up against other ABC TV shows.
On May 10, 2017, Black-ish was renewed for a fourth season.
Season four will debut on October 3, 2017 at 9:00pm.
Stay tuned for further updates.

Telly’s Take
Although the Black-ish ratings continue to drop, it’s still one of ABC’s stronger shows, particularly in the crucial 18-49 year old viewer demographic. It’s also one of the six comedies which received an order for extra episodes, back in mid-December. What’s more, the network is in the early stages of developing a spin-off featuring Yara Shahidi’s Zoey Johnson, as she heads off to college. Unless the second half of season three tanks in the ratings, I expect ABC will renew Black-ish for a fourth season. Doing so ensures the sitcom will have a good sized syndication package, while I look elsewhere for my next meal.
