Black-ish: Season Five Ratings

Black-ish TV show on ABC: season 5 ratings (canceled or renewed season 6?)

Last year, even though the Black-ish TV show on ABC continued its downward slide in the Nielsen ratings, it still wasn’t cancelled. Now that it’s back for its fifth season, during which it will mark its 100th episode, is this family comedy series on its way out the door, or will the Alphabet Network keep it around a while longer? Will Black-ish be cancelled or renewed for season six? Stay tuned. *Status update below.

An ABC sitcom, Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Yara Shahidi, Marcus Scribner, Miles Brown, Marsai Martin, Peter Mackenzie, Jenifer Lewis, Deon Cole, and Laurence Fishburne. Dre (Anderson) and Rainbow (Ross) Johnson want to give their children the best, and they’re determined that best will include a strong sense of cultural identity and respect for the past, as their foundation for a bright future. Season five kicks off with the Johnsons dropping Junior (Scribner) off at college, but they soon learn he has other ideas.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

5/22 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

For comparisons: The fourth season of Black-ish averaged a 1.19 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.270 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
