It’s official! ABC just announced they’ve renewed Black-ish for a sixth season and ordered a prequel TV show called Mixed-ish.
A family comedy, Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson as Andre “Dre” Johnson, Tracee Ellis Ross as Rainbow Johnson, Laurence Fishburne as Pops, Yara Shahidi as Zoey Johnson, Marcus Scribner as Andre Johnson Jr., Miles Brown as Jack Johnson, Marsai Martin as Diane Johnson, Jenifer Lewis as Ruby, Peter Mackenzie as Mr. Stevens and Deon Cole as Charlie Telphy.
Ratings for Black-ish have continued to dip over the years and season five is no exception. So far, the current season is averaging a 0.80 rating in the 18-49 demo and 3.33 million viewers. That’s a nearly 30% drop in the ratings from season four. Nevertheless, the series still remains popular with its fans and has received significant critical acclaim.
The prequel series, Mixed-ish, will center on Rainbow Johnson and “recounts her experience growing up in a mixed-race family in the ’80s and the constant dilemmas they had to face over whether to assimilate or stay true to themselves.”
