With Modern Family set to end next year, ABC sure wouldn’t mind another comedy of its caliber (not to mention its popularity in Nielsen households). Enter the Bless This Mess TV show. While the premise of this fish-out-of-water sitcom seems situation heavy, the cast is not a bunch of comedy lightweights and has the chops to elevate any script they’re given. Can they lift it high enough to clear the hurdles that are the Nielsen ratings? Will Bless This Mess be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
An ABC single-camera comedy, Bless This Mess stars Lake Bell, Dax Shepard, Ed Begley Jr., Pam Grier, David Koechner, JT Neal, and Madison Curry. The story centers on newlyweds Mike and Rio (Shepard and Bell), who decide to forsake the hustle and bustle of New York City for a more pastoral life in Nebraska. Once the couple arrives in cornhusker country, it doesn’t take them too long to figure out that living a simple life requires a lot of hard work. Bell co-created the series with Elizabeth Meriwether.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival.
