The Carmichael Show: Season Three Ratings

The Carmichael Show TV show on NBC: season 3 ratings (canceled or season 4 renewal?)

The Carmichael Show earned low ratings in its freshman season as a summer sitcom. After moving to the mid-season for its second installment, its Nielsen numbers fell even further, and yet the show scored a season three renewal. Still, this year, the Peacock Network has renewed both dramas — like The Blacklist and Shades of Blue — and comedies — like Trial & Error and Great News — which attract a similar audience. Is this the new normal? Now that it has returned as a summer series, will The Carmichael Show be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned.

A topical NBC comedy starring Jerrod Carmichael, Amber Stevens West, David Alan Grier, Lil Rel Howery, and Loretta Devine, The Carmichael Show is loosely inspired by star and co-creator Jerrod Carmichael’s family life. This opinionated North Carolina family consists of Jerrod (Carmichael), his old-school dad, Joe (Grier), devout mom, Cynthia (Devine), progressive girlfriend, Maxine (Stevens West), and brother Bobby (Howery). Through these characters, the show explores current societal themes, including race, police protests, guns, and religion.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

8/10 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.

For comparisons: The second season of The Carmichael Show averaged a 0.92 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.157 million total viewers.

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
