According to The Wrap, whether the Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon TV show will be cancelled or renewed for season four on NBC is still up in the air. Back in mid-February, the host said he wanted out of his bigger Peacock Network TV show, America’s Got Talent. Judges Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell, Mel B, and Heidi Klum are expected to return for season 12 of that show.
Today on The View, Mandel told Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and Jedediah Bila, that the thought of doing AGT without Cannon as “unthinkable.” Mandel also confirmed NBC has not fired the host and said the decision is in Cannon’s hands, then made a plea for him to return. Looking directly at the camera, he said, “Nick, say it ain’t so. Please come back to work.” Mandel added that he thinks Cannon is the best host on television, and called him “underrated.” He then addressed Canon again, adding, “Nick, the show will not be as good without you. You gotta come back. ”
Will Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon be Cancelled or Renewed?
Based on information from an unnamed source, the new report asserts no decision has been made about Caught on Camera, at the network level. NBC reportedly had no comment and Cannon’s people didn’t respond to The Wrap‘s inquiry.
The fate of the show may have far more to do it its low ratings than the host’s relationship with NBC. The third season of Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon averaged a 0.64 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.09 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down 10% and 11%, respectively.
Nick Cannon’s History with America’s Got Talent
Cannon, who has hosted the America’s Got Talent TV show since its fourth season, recently announced he is leaving the NBC talent competition series. Filling the role since 2009, he is only the third host on the show, following Regis Philbin (2006) and Jerry Springer (2007-08).
Posting to Facebook and Instagram on February 13th, Cannon alleged NBC threatened to fire him from America’s Got Talent, over a race-related joke he delivered during his Showtime comedy special, Stand Up, Don’t Shoot. According to Cannon, the network claimed he had “disparaged their brand,” which is a contract violation.
Now, whether the host quit America’s Got Talent is another question, entirely, he’s still under contract at NBC. In wake of Cannon’s announcement, the news outlet reported Cannon and the four judges just re-upped, back in August.
Working on information from a source, the earlier report claimed, “That whole disparagement clause in his contract is a pretty standard one, the insider said, and network executives don’t seem to think the racially charged jokes in Cannon’s Showtime special violated it.”
Now, the new report says, “It’s unlikely NBC would sue to keep the emcee, who has maintained that he’s completely through with TV’s primo talent show.”
