What’s This TV Show About?

Airing on the NBC television network, Chicago Med follows the doctors, nurses, and staff of the state of the art Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. As the ER’s newest attending, Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) supervises pediatrics resident Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto), his longtime crush. Also serving under Halstead are cardio-thoracic surgeon Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell), psychiatrist Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt), intern Dr. Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo), and former Navy flight surgeon Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee). Chicago Med Chief of Services, Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) manages the pressure of running the city’s largest hospital while ensuring the facility provides compassionate, quality care. The cast also includes Yaya DaCosta and Marlyne Barrett.

Telly’s Take

While Chicago Med‘s second season ratings have dropped, that was to be expected. In its freshman year, the medical drama’s lead-in was NBC’s most popular series, The Voice, and now airs on a night with tougher competition and weaker lead-ins. The second season ratings have been relatively stable and the series is performing relatively well by current NBC standards. I expect the network will renew Chicago Med for season three.
5/10/17 update: NBC has renewed Chicago Med for a third season. Details here.
