TBS Greenlights Close Enough, New Animated Series from J.G. Quintel

Series Marks First Collaboration Between Cartoon Network Studios and Studio T

Turner’s TBS has greenlit Close Enough, a new animated series from Regular Show creator J.G. Quintel. The surreal comedy about a family growing up without getting old marks the first collaboration between Cartoon Network Studios and Studio T, both divisions of Turner. It also marks Quintel’s first project for the company since his Emmy®-winning work on Cartoon Network’s long-running Regular Show. TBS has ordered 13 episodes of Close Enough, which is slated to launch next year.

Close Enough is a surreal take on transitioning from 20-something to 30-something. The show centers on a married couple juggling such everyday challenges as parenthood, friendship, ham theft, stripper clowns and choosing the right day care.

“We couldn’t be more excited to add one of animation’s most impressive and popular voices, J.G. Quintel, to our growing slate of animated series,” said Brett Weitz, executive vice president of original programming for TBS. “J.G. hit the center of the demo target with Regular Show, and we’re counting on him to bring this younger and more engaged audience to our network.”

Close Enough is the latest series to join TBS’s slate of premium comedy series. Last year, the network launched six consecutive hits, including five of cable’s top 15 new comedies of 2016: Wrecked, The Detour, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, People of Earth and Angie Tribeca. TBS also claimed some of the most critically acclaimed comedies of the year, led by Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and Search Party, both of which earned 100% Fresh critical ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. All six of TBS’s 2016 comedies were renewed for new seasons.

This summer, TBS is scheduled to launch The Guest Book, an anthology comedy from writer/executive producer Greg Garcia. In addition, the network will launch The Last O.G., a new scripted comedy starring Tracy Morgan and created by executive producers Jordan Peele and John Carcieri.

On the animation front, Close Enough joins TBS’s iconic hit American Dad!, from Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, which will return with new episodes this summer; The Cops, a buddy comedy created by and starring Louis C.K. and Albert Brooks; Tarantula, a dark comedy about the residents of a seedy hotel from Carson Mell, scheduled to launch this year; and Final Space, an interstellar comedy created by independent filmmaker, actor, comedian and entrepreneur Olan Rogers.
