According to Deadline, the decision to give NBC’s returning comedies short renewals was made so that the network would have additional funds to try new comedies. It’s no secret that NBC’s Thursday night line-up is in sorry shape and the ratings have come down this seaosn.
The current season of Community has been averaging a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demogrphic with 3.56 million total viewers. Year-to-year, the show is down by 16% in the demo and 17% in viewership. It premiered with a 1.7 demo and the most recent episodes have registered a 1.3 rating.
On our NBC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative performances of shows on the network, Community earns a “B-” and is the eighth highest-rated scripted show on the network this season.
The bigger question will be if both co-star Chevy Chase and creator/showrunner Dan Harmon will return to the series next year. The two have been having a very public feud and it seems that one of them may leave the show.
Executive producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan are leaving already as they’ve now signed an overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Community will be back. Do you think the show will end up getting a full season order?
