Constantine aired only one season on NBC before it was cancelled, but fans of the series will have the chance to see John Constantine, played by Matt Ryan, once again. The character will appear on next week’s episode of Arrow on CW, and Ryan teased some about the character’s involvement on the series and the lengths the producers of the CW series went to for Constantine to appear.

The plan to have Constantine to appear on Arrow was thought of before NBC cancelled the series, but it took a lot of work behind the scenes to make it happen after the show ended. Matt Ryan had moved on from Constantine and was getting ready for a play. His schedule almost prevented him from appearing. TV Insider shared his comments.

“They moved heaven and Earth to get me here. I was starting rehearsals for a play [Thérèse Raquin] with Keira Knightley in New York on the first of September. And originally, where the episode sat in the season, I wouldn’t have been able to do it because of my schedule. But everybody just pulled together and moved some things around and really made it work.”

Why is Constantine coming to Arrow? His knowledge is needed. On the last episode, Sara Lance was resurrected from the dead with a little help from the Lazarus Pit. She did not come out as herself though, and Team Arrow will need John’s help.

Ryan teased a bit more about the appearance, but he could not reveal many details. He did tease that Oliver and John do have a past. John owes Oliver for something. However, that something was not revealed.

The situation with Sara is definitely out of Team Arrow’s norm. She died early on in season three. Ryan talked a bit about Constantine’s interactions with Oliver and his team.

“John knows that there are worlds beyond our world, and he is used to dealing with these things on a day-to-day basis. So bringing him into a scenario with a group of people who have never witnessed anything like this is just fascinating. And John is an arrogant bugger too, so they are a little bit thrown off by him. You know, he’s the guy who will give the finger to the devil. So you have this arrogant, trench-coat-wearing guy…and Oliver Queen. It’s great.”
