Is The CW canceling Crazy Ex-Girlfriend? At the TCA winter press tour this past weekend, CW President Mark Pedowitz said there was no sign of cancellation for the freshman musical dramedy.
This past Sunday, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom picked up a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Series—Musical or Comedy.
Speaking to the press, Pedowitz says the show may have low ratings, but the network has “great faith” in the critical darling:
At the moment, I wish I had more optimistic [ratings] statistics. I don’t. What we do have is great faith in the show, great faith in the showrunners and the creators, Aline Brosh McKenna and Rachel Bloom. We believe in the show. We stand by the show. We believe there is a place on our schedule today for a show like this and we’re going to give it a chance to get seen. You can’t beat quality like this. … The fact that Rachel is nominated [for a Golden Globe] is a testament to what they’ve done. … I wish the numbers were better. We have the goods with the show and we have a quality Monday night with Crazy Ex and Jane the Virgin.”
Pedowitz is correct. The ratings aren’t great for season one of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. So far, the freshman series is hovering around only 1 million viewers per episode, with an 18-49 demo average of .28.
However low, the Golden Globe win will likely bring in more viewers and attention.
