The Crown: Season Three Would Feature a New Cast

Is the Queen being replaced? Recently, The Crown creator Peter Morgan spoke with People about his plans for future seasons of the Netflix TV series

The historical drama chronicles the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. The cast includes Claire Foy, Matt Smith, John Lithgow, Victoria Hamilton, Jared Harris, Vanessa Kirby, and Dame Eileen Atkins. Netflix has already renewed the show for a second season.

In the interview, Morgan said the next season will focus less on the Queen and more on Prince Philip and a young Prince Charles:

We start to focus on Charles as a young boy and his education, and on Philip and his back story. … It’s goodbye to a different, Edwardian, post-Imperial world. We get a classlessness and a modernity beginning to creep in. It is going to be terrific.”

But what about season three? Morgan says that future seasons will see new actors playing the parts as the characters age. Additionally, Princess Diana will make an appearance “toward the end of season three and will be heavily featured in the following two seasons.”

Season two of The Crown is expected to premiere in late 2017.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the Netflix series? Are you excited for the new seasons?
