What’s in store for the next season of The Crown? According to The Hollywood Reporter, there are big plans for the future of the Netflix TV show.
The period drama explores the private life of Queen Elizabeth II. Season two stars Claire Foy, Matt Smith, John Lithgow, Victoria Hamilton, Jared Harris, Vanessa Kirby, and Dame Eileen Atkins.
As reported earlier, season three will star Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth and Helen Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret. But what else is planned? So far, there is no actor attached to play Prince Philip in season three, but producer Suzanne Mackie did reveal new characters will be introduced in the upcoming season of the Netflix series:
You start meeting Camilla Parker Bowles in season three. We have to be honest, season three and four are being mapped out and the closer the history comes — I now can say, ‘God, I know exactly what I was feeling when that happened, I remember that and I remember this.’ That’s so exciting!”
And what can fans expect? According to THR, season three of The Crown will cover the late ’60s and ’70s while season four is expected to explore the Thatcher era and Princess Diana in the ’80s.
Netflix chief Ted Sarandos says the show won’t end there. The plan is to make six seasons and cover the Queen’s entire life up until the present day:
This is going to take Queen Elizabeth from age 29 to, presumably, the current day. We’ll see it lay out over decades. The idea is to do this over six decades in six seasons presumably, and make the whole show [run] over eight to 10 years.”
What do you think? Do you watch The Crown? Are you excited for future seasons? Who do you think should play Princess Diana?
