The Cruel Intentions reboot has set its cast, and one actor from the original 1999 film is returning to continue their story. Per Variety, Sean Patrick Thomas (above, left), who played music teacher Ronald Clifford in the movie, will return for the series. He’ll play Professor Chadwick in the TV series.

Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Khobe Clarke, Brooke Lena Johnson, Sara Silva, John Harlan Kim, and Myra Molloy have also been cast in the series. The story will follow a new pair of step-siblings at an elite Washington, D.C. college. They’ll do anything to stay on top of the social pyramid, including seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. Laura Benanti and Jon Tenney will recur.

Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman are behind the reboot, which has been in development for several years. NBC first looked at rebooting the film for television in 2016 with the involvement of one of the film’s stars, Sarah Michelle Gellar. The movie was based on the classic novel, Dangerous Liaisons.

Amazon ordered this reboot to series in April, and ordered eight episodes. It is not yet known where the series will land, though. It could be released via either Prime Video or Amazon Freevee. A premiere date will be announced later.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the original Cruel Intentions film? Do you plan to watch the series reboot when it eventually arrives?
