CW Announces Their 2008-09 Schedule. Who’s Been Cancelled?

The CW has announced their upcoming season and there aren’t too many surprises. Actually, the upcoming season will look quite similar to the current one.

Coming back next fall are America’s Next Top Model, Everybody Hates Chris, The Game, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Smallville, and Supernatural. Reaper will return midseason with 13 episodes.

The network’s new shows include the spin-off of Beverly Hills, 90210 which is named simply 90210, a drama called Surviving the Filthy Rich, and a new Tyra Banks-produced reality show titled Stylista.

Those who won’t be back include…

Aliens in America — This sitcom just never found an audience, despite being loved by critics. The last episode is set for Sunday, May 18th.

Beauty and the Geek — Viewership for the reality show has been falling for some time but really took a dip this time around. It may be back some day but, for now, the series finale will air tonight.

Farmer Wants a Wife — This comedy reality series has been on the air for three weeks and has done quite poorly in the ratings. Eight episodes are planned with the last one scheduled for June 25th. It won’t be back next season. (7-08 Update: The ratings for some of the later episodes were pretty good — compared to other CW shows — so the series could possibly return at some point).

Friday Night Smackdown! — The wrestling show moves to MyNetworkTV this fall. It may not fit with CW’s image but you can bet they’re going to miss the show’s viewers.

Life is Wild — The ratings were terrible and quietly faded into the sunset. All 13 episodes have aired with the last one being shown on February 3rd.

Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants — This silly reality show was crucified by critics and largely ignored by viewers. The last episode aired on January 30th.

Pussycat Dolls Presents — The reality series tthat was so popular that it played a part in the cancellation of Veronica Mars in 2007 was essentially ignored by viewers this time around. Season two concluded on April 23rd.

Girlfriends — After the writers strike, the network opted not to put the long-running sitcom back into production to give it a fitting series finale. A clip show was considered but isn’t likely to happen now. The final episode aired on February 11th. Stay tuned!
