TV show description:
A satirical dramedy based on the Star Jones novel, Satan’s Sisters, the Daytime Divas TV show follows the backstage drama between the cast of the fictional daytime talkshow, The Lunch Hour.
Each weekday at noon, Maxine (Williams), Mo (Arnold), Heather (Gubelmann), Kibby (Bridges), and Nina (Guaty) talk about politics, entertainment, lifestyle topics, and gossip like true friends. The real action, though, happens off the air. The series centers on the hosts’ secret affairs, power struggles, schemes, and tantrums.
Veteran journalist Maxine Robinson created The Lunch Hour, in part to keep her relevant in an industry which often fails to value the contribution of mature women. Despite being daunting and dominant, she is constantly on guard against being pushed aside for someone younger and less experienced.
A stand-up comedian, Mo Evans is motivated and determined to succeed. Her lack of a filter frequently lands her in hot water, but contrition just isn’t her thing.
Kibby Ainsley is a sexually fluid former child star, who is recently out of rehab. This intelligent young woman has issues with her own mother and looks up to and depends on Maxine.
Shawn Robinson is Maxine’s handsome, charismatic, industrious son and a producer on The Lunch Hour. In addition to running the show, he has to keep the hosts from tearing into each other, which often involves placating their sizable egos.
Former war correspondent Nina Sandoval is married to a congressman in the making. She and Shawn are having an affair, but she doesn’t want to jeopardize her husband’s political future with scandal or divorce.
Former pageant queen Heather Flynn-Kellogg is devoutly and overtly religious. Although she considers herself morally superior to her co-hosts, she is not above hypocrisy.
While Jones’ novel and the series are works of fiction they were inspired, in part, by her time on the ABC talkshow, The View. Notably though, some of its current co-hosts will guest star as themselves on Daytime Divas, including Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Jedediah Bila and Sara Haines.
Series Finale:
Episode #10 — Lunch Is On Us
Everyone is reeling from the aftermath of what happened backstage as tensions come to a head.
