Dr. Ken: Cancel or Renew for Season Two?

Dr Ken TV show on ABC: canceled or renewed for season 2?ABC’s Friday night sitcom, Dr. Ken, was slammed by television critics and many predicted that the series would be quickly cancelled. How has the show performed in the ratings? Is it a hit or a flop? Should it be dropped or renewed for a second season?

Based on the experiences of creator and star Ken Jeong, Dr. Ken follows the life of a brilliant but unorthodox physician who occasionally leaves his bedside manner at home. The cast also includes Suzy Nakamura, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Dave Foley, Kate Simses, Jonathan Slavin, Albert Tsai, and Krista Marie Yu.

The series premiered in October 2015 with a 1.48 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.71 million viewers. It was a positive start for a Friday night series. The numbers dropped 11-15% in week two which was a reasonable amount.

The ratings were pretty steady in 2015 but they’ve kept slipping downward in 2016. Last week’s episode hit a new low with a 0.89 in the demo and 4.68 million.

Dr. Ken is currently averaging a 1.12 rating in the demo with 5.33 million viewers. Last season’s Cristela (which was cancelled) did about the same and averaged a 1.0 with 5.23 million.

ABC could go either way with this one. The ratings aren’t strong and they aren’t terrible either (for a Friday night series). The network hasn’t had great success establishing new comedies this season so they may decide to give Dr. Ken a second chance. Their decision will likely have a lot to do with how much they like the new crop of comedy pilots.

But, what do you think? Do you like the Dr. Ken TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on ABC?
