Dynasty: Watch the 1991 Reunion Movie

Back in 1989, Dynasty was cancelled after nine seasons on ABC. The ratings started tumbling in season six and the show was not cheap to produce (though efforts were made to cut costs towards the end).

Unfortunately for the fans, Dynasty ended with a number of cliffhangers. Fallon (Emma Samms) and little Krystina (Jessica Player) were tapped in a cavern with a sociopathic killer. Dex (Michael Nader) and Alexis (Joan Collins) were accidentally pushed off a balcony by her son, Adam (Gordon Thomson). And Blake (John Forsythe) was left bleeding on his mansion’s staircase after being shot by a crooked cop.

In October 1991, ABC reunited some of the actors for a two-night mini-series, Dynasty: The Reunion. Some of the characters returned while others were strangely missing. The story picked up a few years after the end of the series and casually addressed some of the cliffhangers. It also seemed to ignore some of the show’s past events.

In any case, it was nice to see some of characters together again and to get some closure on the story of the Carringtons and Colbys. There was talk that the mini-series could be used to ignite a new series but it didn’t happen. The ratings certainly didn’t mandate it.

Dynasty: The Reunion isn’t available on DVD but a fan has thoughtfully uploaded it to YouTube. Before you watch, you might like to take a look at a two news stories about the reunion.
