Eastbound & Down: McBride Says HBO Series Ending with Season Three

The sixth night of the 28th Annual Paley Festival was held at the Saban Theater in Los Angeles last night. The evening centered around the HBO comedy series Eastbound & Down which revolves around a star pitcher (Danny McBride) whose self-destructive behavior knocks him out of major league baseball. It leaves him broke, delusional, and desperate to regain his former glory.

The TV show was renewed for a third season last October. Last night, executive producer and star McBride told the audience that season three will likely be the show’s last. He added, “The third season to us has always been the climax of the story that we set out to tell.”

He also said that, “I was never really that interested in turning the show into something traditional. We always wanted to just follow this character. We wanted the first season to weirdly stand on its own.”

The third round of installments are still being written but McBride admitted that he knows how Eastbound & Down will end. He wouldn’t disclose much about the upcoming season but did admit that Kenny will return to Shelby, North Carolina and April Buchanon (Katy Mixon) will be back.

HBO hasn’t announced when Eastbound & Down will return but word is that it probably won’t be until 2012.

What do you think? Do you think the series will really end after three seasons? Should it?
