Eastbound & Down: Final Season Return? Life’s Too Short: To Debut

Eastbound & Down season threeHBO has announced the return of Eastbound & Down, their Danny McBride comedy series. Season three will debut on February 19th and run on Sundays for eight episodes. It’s been a long time between seasons with the last episode airing in November of 2010. The season three renewal was announced in October 2010.

Last May, McBride said that he believed season three would be the end, noting, “The third season to us has always been the climax of the story that we set out to tell.” HBO hasn’t made an official announcement regarding the end of the series but season three should conclude on April 8th.

Meanwhile, Ricky Gervais’ new comedy, Life’s Too Short, will follow Eastbound & Down on Sunday nights for seven episodes. Those will finish running on April 1st.

Here’s the press release from HBO:

The debut date for the new seasons of the HBO comedy series EASTBOUND & DOWN and LIFE’S TOO SHORT has been confirmed. EASTBOUND & DOWN kicks off its eight-episode third season SUNDAY, FEB. 19 (10:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT), immediately followed by the debut of the seven-episode season of the new show LIFE’S TOO SHORT (10:30-11:00 p.m.).

Starring Danny McBride and executive produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Chris Henchy, Jody Hill and Danny McBride, EASTBOUND & DOWN tells the story of Kenny Powers, a star pitcher whose self-destructive behavior knocks him out of major league baseball, leaving him broke, delusional and desperate to regain his former glory.

LIFE’S TOO SHORT is a faux documentary starring actor Warwick Davis (the “Harry Potter” and “Star Wars” films) as a fictionalized version of himself: a down-and-out little person desperately trying to hustle and connive his way back into the spotlight. Written, directed and executive produced by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the show features cameos by top stars, including Johnny Depp, Sting and Steve Carell, along with Gervais and Merchant playing themselves in minor roles.

What do you think? Is it time for Eastbound & Down to end or should there be a fourth season? Will you try Life’s Too Short?
