What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the FOX television network, Empire centers on Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) and his family. A CEO of a successful hip hop music company, Lucious has three ambitious sons. In addition to the business-minded Andre (Trai Byers) who is living with bipolar disorder, there are musicians Jamal (Jussie Smollett), who is gay, as well as the fame-obsessed Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray). Lucious also must reckon with his determined ex-wife. Loretha aka “Cookie” (Taraji P. Henson) once served time in prison for his sake and wants her due. In one way or another, everyone longs to control the family empire. The cast also includes Grace Gealey, Ta’Rhonda Jones, Serayah McNeill, and Gabourey Sidibe.
Season Three Ratings
The third season of Empire averaged a 2.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.62 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down by 38% in the demo and down by 34% in terms of total viewers. Learn how Empire stacks up against the other FOX TV shows.
On January 11th, Empire was renewed for a fourth season.
It will debut on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 8pm ET.

Telly’s Take
Although Empire‘s numbers have dropped significantly this season, the music business drama series is still a top performer for FOX in terms of both the coveted 18-49 year old viewer demo and total viewership. What’s more, creators Lee Daniels and Danny Strong have both confirmed they are in early talks about a potential Empire spin-off series. In the end, the early FOX season four renewal came as no surprise. That said, I will wait patiently, for the day I finally can indulge myself on this juicy show.
