The third season of Empire premieres on FOX tonight at 9:00pm. The series stars Terrence Howard, Bryshere Y. Grey, Trai Byers, Taraji P. Henson, and Jussie Smollet. Showrunner Ilene Chaiken is teasing the fallout from the season two finale cliffhanger.

Did Anika (Grace Gealey) or Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) go over the balcony rail? Did both ladies take the plunge? Reportedly, fans will find out within the first few minutes of tonight’s Empire season three premiere episode, “Light in Darkness.”

Here is more, from TV Line:

TVLINE | I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask you to tease the outcome of Season 2’s monumental cliffhanger. In our episode post-mortem last May, you said that someone would die.

Did I say that? Oh gosh.

TVLINE | Well, to be specific, you said, the look on Andre’s face “says somebody went over that railing” and that “it would be ludicrous to say that would be a survivable fall.”

Well, if I said that, I’d better make good on that promise. [Laughs]

TVLINE | Does it break your heart to lose Rhonda or Anika?

I’m devastated at the thought of saying goodbye to either one of them. And I’m not even sure how we’re going to get through it.

Here is how FOX sets up Empire, season three:

The drama returns in Season Three, as the battle continues for the Soul of Empire. Each member of the Lyon family must cope with the events that were set in motion in the Season Two finale. Lucious pursues his music legacy with his streaming service, while also clashing with his half-brother, Tariq (Morocco Omari), who is leading a federal task force investigating him. Cookie aims to start over, in pursuit of her own happiness – a series of flashbacks reveal how Loretha Holloway became Cookie Lyon and how Cookie met Lucious. Meanwhile, the Lyon brothers – Andre, Jamal and Hakeem – all are determined to overcome the events of last season and move on, but the choices they face will become a battle for the soul of the Lyon family.

What do you think? Who do you think fell over the balcony in the Empire TV series’ season two finale? Do you plan to watch the third season premiere tonight on FOX, to find out? Tell us.
