In season three, Lee Daniels and Danny Strong’s Empire TV show saw a significant ratings decline, but it was still the top rated FOX TV series — in the coveted 18-49 demo and in total viewership, as well. How will it fare in its fourth season? Will Empire be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned.
A FOX musical drama, Empire stars Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett, Bryshere Y. Gray, Trai Byers, Grace Byers, Gabourey Sidibe, Ta’Rhonda Jones, Serayah, Xzibit, Rumer Willis, Andre Royo, and Terrell Carter. Guest starring this year are Demi Moore, Phylicia Rashad, Taye Diggs, and Forest Whitaker.
In Empire, season four, Empire Entertainment celebrates its 20th anniversary, and Lucious (Howard) makes his first public appearance since the Las Vegas explosion. Of course the Lyons each have their own concerns regarding his recovery, as does his nurse, Claudia (Moore). Meanwhile, Cookie (Henson) reflects on her 17-year prison stint. In order to preserve their family legacy and business, everyone must take a hard look at their past and present choices. **Status update below.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/24 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The third season of Empire averaged a 2.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.616 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
