It’s official. Empire co-creator Lee Daniels says there will be a spin-off to the FOX TV series, TVGuide reports.
The popular music drama centers on hip hop mogul Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), his ex-wife Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), and their family. The cast also includes Trai Byers, Jussie Smollett, Bryshere Y. Gray, Grace Gealey, Ta’Rhonda Jones, Serayah McNeill, and Gabourey Sidibe.
During this week’s Television Critics Association press tour, Daniels confirmed what has long been rumored — an Empire spin-off series:
“I can officially say that we will be having a spin-off. … We’re in talks. We’re finally figuring it out. It takes a minute, you know? We just really had to build the foundation of Empire, so we then try to figure out what that B-chorus is. It looks like it’s going to happen.”
In other news, FOX renewed Empire for a fourth season earlier this week.
