Famous: FOX Cancels Upcoming Comedy Series

In an exclusive, Deadline reports FOX has cancelled its upcoming Famous TV show. The network announced it had ordered the rom-com from Ralph Farquhar and Ty Hodges straight to series, on April 4, 2016. Farquhar was set as executive producer and Hodges as supervising producer, on the 20th Century Fox project.

Famous had been slated to premiere Sunday, June 12 at 9:00pm. The network ordered 10 episodes, which follow high school teachers Fred and Geneva. Their relationship is tested when one of them skyrockets to stardom virtually overnight.

Deadline says, “The decision comes as the series was casting. A writers room had been assembled to work on scripts but the show was yet to begin production.” Here’s more:

 

Famous originally had been pitched to Fox a few years ago when the network ordered a presentation but ultimately passed on it. When Fox’s new leadership was looking for summer programming this year, a creative executive brought up Famous. It was very well received, leading to the series order.

Created and written by Farquhar and Hodges, Famous was laid off at 20th Century Fox Television at the time of the pickup.

Filmed in mock-documentary style at a “couples” therapy session, FAMOUS features dating high school teachers FRED and GENEVA, both of whom secretly aspire to work in Hollywood. He wants to be a screenwriter and she envisions stardom as a pop diva. One of those dreams miraculously comes true when Geneva lands a record deal after her first music video goes viral and logs millions of views. As she rises to stardom, he feels pushed to the sidelines. Can this couple survive or will they discover that being famous and in love makes for a complicated threesome?
