In a day full of cancellations at other cable networks, AMC has announced it has renewed its Fear the Walking Dead TV show for a fourth season. As previously reported, Dave Erickson is stepping down from his showrunner role after the upcoming third season, to develop new projects, as part of his overall deal with AMC. Today, the cabler announced Once Upon a Time vets Andrew Chambliss and Ian B. Goldberg will board as co-showrunners for the fourth season.
A prequel to The Walking Dead TV series, Fear the Walking Dead stars Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Lorenzo James Henrie, Rubén Blades, Mercedes Mason, and Colman Domingo. Buffy veteran Emma Caulfield is joining the new installment in a still unknown capacity. Fear the Walking Dead season three will premiere on AMC, on June 4, 2017 at 9:00pm ET/PT with back-to-back new episodes.
In addition to Once Upon a Time, Chambliss has also worked on cancelled TV series including The Vampire Diaries, Dollhouse, Bionic Woman, Heroes, and Crossing Jordan.
Goldberg created Freeform‘s cancelled Dead of Summer TV series, with OUAT creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis. He also wrote for cancelled series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, FlashFoward, and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.

NEW YORK, NY – April 14, 2017 – AMC announced today that it has renewed “Fear the Walking Dead” for a fourth season, ahead of its upcoming season three premiere on June 4. In addition, Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg (“Once Upon a Time”) are boarding “Fear” as co-showrunners, starting with season four. Additionally, Scott M. Gimple, executive producer and showrunner of “The Walking Dead” will become an executive producer of “Fear the Walking Dead.”
“We’re very excited to continue the journey of ‘Fear The Walking Dead,’ and truly look forward to working with the talented team of Andrew Chambliss, Ian Goldberg, and Scott Gimple,” said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV.

In the second half of its second season, “Fear the Walking Dead” averaged 5.3 million viewers per episode, including 3.4 million adults 25-54 and 3 million adults 18-49 in Nielsen live+3 ratings, firmly establishing “Fear” as one of the top shows on cable.
AMC previously announced that “Fear the Walking Dead” showrunner Dave Erickson would be transitioning off of the show upon completion of production of season 3 to develop new products for AMC Studios.
A wholly original companion series to “The Walking Dead,” the #1 show on television among adults 18-49 for the last five years, “Fear the Walking Dead” is executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert, David Erickson and Scott M. Gimple and produced by AMC Studios.
