Despite dropping off some in the Nielsen ratings, The Flash TV show has been The CW’s highest-rated program for its first four years on the air. Unless something totally unexpected happens, it is unlikely to be cancelled any time too soon. But eventually, the program will either fall from grace, or they will decide the story is complete. The fifth season’s ratings will factor into that calculation. Will The Flash be cancelled or renewed for season six and beyond? Stay tuned. **Status update below.
A CW superhero drama, based on the DC Comics, The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin, Keiynan Lonsdale, Danielle Nicolet, Hartley Sawyer, Jessica Parker Kennedy, and Chris Klein. The action-adventure series centers on police scientist Barry Allen (Gustin) who develops super speed after a dark-matter lightning strike. Behind his mask, Barry uses his powers to protect the people of Central City from many a dark force.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. For comparisons: The fourth season of The Flash averaged a 0.80 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.214 million total viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
