Last year, ratings for the the Fresh Off the Boat TV show dropped yet again. It wasn’t cancelled by ABC, but although it is back for a fifth season, it has been moved to Friday nights, which could remove some of the pressure, or could sign its death warrant. The fifth season starts out with 79 episodes already in the can and that desirable 100-episode syndication goal in sight. Will the Huang family’s saga end here? Will Fresh Off the Boat be cancelled or renewed for season six? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
An ABC comedy, Fresh Off the Boat stars Hudson Yang, Randall Park, Constance Wu, Forrest Wheeler, Ian Chen, Lucille Soong, Chesley Crisp, and Ray Wise. Set in the 1990s, the sitcom centers on Eddie Huang (Yang), his parents Louis and Jessica (Park and Wu), brothers Emery (Wheeler) and Evan (Chen), and grandmother Jenny (Soong). Now that they’ve been there for a few years, the Huangs have acclimated themselves to Orlando living. Season five kicks off with Louis as full owner of the steakhouse, Jessica, as an American citizen, and Honey and Marvin (Crisp and Wise) as new parents.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. For comparisons: The fourth season of Fresh Off the Boat on ABC averaged a 1.02 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.831 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).

Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
