TV show description:
An adult comedy from creators and Harvard alumni, Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, the Friends from College TV show centers on a New York City group of friends, who first bonded at Harvard University, nearly 20 years ago. The series explores how professional and personal growth and upheaval can affect friendships.
As their lives change, these friends from college begin to wonder what — if anything — they still have in common. The storylines delve into issues including infidelity, infertility, and immaturity.
A somewhat obsessive writer, Ethan Turner (Key) wants to craft the Great American Novel. He and his wife, Lisa (Smulders), have just moved from Michigan to New York and are trying to conceive a child. Ethan is also concealing his ongoing 20-year affair with his old college friend, Sam (Parisse).
On top of trying to have a baby, Lisa is a conscientious and industrious lawyer, who is trying to get used to her new, higher-paying job. She left a position she loved at the ACLU and now works at a less-than-scrupulous New York firm. Sometimes, she feels her friends don’t give her the support she needs and still treat her like they did, when she was the youngest of their crew, at Harvard.
A successful interior designer, Sam is keeping her affair a secret from her husband (Germann). He’s a good man, provider, and father to their two kids, but despite appearances, she wants more. Although she and Ethan vow to end their affair, now that they’re in the same city, that’s easier said than done.
Ethan’s best friend and literary agent, Max (Savage), has difficulty finding the right balance between friendships, work, and his relationship with partner Felix (Eichner). Sometimes, his commitment to his old friends keeps him from succeeding both professionally and personally.
Rounding out the group are Marianne (Park) and Nick (Faxon). An actress and free spirit, Marianne hosts Ethan and Lisa when they first move to the Big Apple. Meanwhile, aging trust fund kid Nick is still living the playboy life.
As their youth slips away, and reality tempers their big dreams, can they find a way to make their friendships last? Should they?
Series Finale:
Episode #TBD — The Wedding
Max and Felix’s big day arrives — and so does the drama as secrets are revealed, confessions are made, and poorly timed punches are thrown.
First aired: January 11, 2019.
