Game of Thrones: No End Date in Sight

game of thrones futureTo no surprise, HBO has no immediate plans to end Game of Thrones. At the TCA summer press tour, Michael Lombardo (HBO’s president of programming) said, “It can go on as long as there are stories to tell.”

HBO CEO Richard Plepler joked, “Our line to George [R.R. Martin is] to keep writing.”

Game of Thrones is currently HBO’s most successful series. While their other big show, True Blood, has been seeing some viewership declines year-over-year, Game of Thrones’ audience continues to grow.

The first season averaged 2.52 million viewers for initial airings while season two drew an estimated 3.8 million. Season three, which finished airing in early June, averaged a whopping 4.97 million.

Game of Thrones was renewed for a fourth season back in April but we won’t see new episodes until some time in 2014.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the George R.R. Martin series? How long do you realistically think it can run?
